Government Rebates & Heat Pump Incentives in Ottawa

Make your upgrade once. Let the rebates do the heavy lifting.

Upgrading to a cold-climate heat pump or improving your home’s efficiency is a lot easier when the government is paying a big part of the bill.

On this page, we’ve summarized the main rebate program available in Ottawa, Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP) – Ontario’s current primary heat pump rebate.

Peak Comfort HVAC handles all the paperwork for the program so you can focus on choosing the right system and enjoying a more comfortable home.

HRSP Heat Pump Rebates (Ottawa)

Government rebates for heat pump upgrades, with no home energy assessment required for the single-upgrade heat pump stream.

Rebate Amounts – Heat Pumps

Exact amounts depend on how your home is currently heated and the size of the heat pump (in “tons” of capacity):

Homes heated with Enbridge natural gas

  • $500 per ton for eligible cold-climate air-source heat pumps
  • Up to $2,000 in total rebates

Homes heated with electricity, oil, propane, or wood

  • $1,250 per ton for eligible cold-climate air-source heat pumps
  • Up to $7,500 in total rebates

(Geothermal / ground-source systems may qualify for higher rebates under the same program – ask us if you’re considering geo.)

Why It’s a No-Brainer

  • Rebate often covers most or all of the cost difference between a traditional AC and a cold-climate heat pump
  • Year-over-year energy savings and lower emissions
  • Designed for real Ottawa winters with low-temperature performance
  • No audit, no assessor visit, no delays for the heat-pump-only stream

Two Ways to Use HRSP

Option 1 – Heat Pump Only (Most Common)

  • No home energy assessment required
  • Best if you mainly want to upgrade your heating & cooling system now
  • Rebate based on the heat pump size and your current fuel type

Option 2 – Heat Pump + Other Upgrades (2+ Upgrades Stream)

  • Requires a pre- and post-retrofit home energy assessment
  • You complete two or more qualifying upgrades (e.g., heat pump + insulation, windows, etc.)
  • Higher total rebate potential: up to $5,000 for gas-heated homes and $10,000 for electrically heated homes, including an allowance for the energy assessments

The Peak Comfort Advantage
